Can everyone give Jim Joyce a break?
He’s a good umpire who happened to screwed up at a wrong time, it can happen to anyone. Also he admitted that he screwed up and felt bad for it, you got to give him that as umpires like Joe West, Angel Hernandez and Bucknor would have defend their calls no matter how wrong it is.
Also he won’t live it down so shouldn’t that be enough?
You are ABSOLUTELY right, dude. Thank you for posting this. Joyce is a great ump who made a humongous mistake that costed a guy a perfect game, but it only shows how good of an ump he is…his eyesight could use some work, though. He called this guy safe, even though Galarraga needed ONE out to get the perfect game. It shows that he’s not gonna make a call that he thinks is incorrect just to give the guy his perfect game. He made a mistake, everybody does, and I think everyone needs to lay off. I also think that, had he not apologized so heavily and shown how bad he is feeling about blowing the call, he would have been fined or suspended or something. But he’s showing some REAL class here and for that I think that we need to give him a break.
Jim Joyce is NOT a bad umpire. Joe West is a bad umpire because he thinks that people pay money to see umpires as well as baseball.
Jim Joyce makes the calls he thinks are correct and when he realizes he gets them wrong, he apologizes. Do you think Joe West would have apologized if he made the call Jim Joyce did? I don’t think so.
Joyce is a good ump. West is a bad ump.
